Research has shown that participation in a therapeutic group can be effective in reducing the emotional distress and isolation of the cancer journey. This is true for cancer survivors, as well as partners and children. Simple creative processes are part of all the groups that I facilitate. Opportunities for guided relaxation, writing and shared discussion are also included. An art therapy group is appropriate for some of the following issues:

  • depression and anxiety
  • stress
  • relationship issues
  • loss and grief
  • illness and recovery

Evidence suggests that therapeutic groups are beneficial for:

  • reducing psychological distress
  • enhancing coping skills
  • improving quality of life
  • enabling relaxation and connection with others

On a regular basis I will be running a range of groups. These may include:

  • The Creative Journey – 6 week art therapy group for adults who have finished cancer treatment.
  • Creative Grief – 6 week art therapy group for bereaved partners or carers
  • Art for my Heart – 8 week bereavement group for children (8-12yrs) who are grieving the death of a loved one in the last year.
